• West End heavyweight, The Lion King, to extend its stay at the Lyceum

    Disney’s The Lion King has announced that it will be taking bookings up to 9 September 2012 at the Lyceum Theatre in London.

    The stage phenomenon, which has pretty well always been in the SeatChoice Top 10 West End shows, has been a resident at the West End’s Lyceum Theatre for nearly twelve years and with an audience figure of over 9 million, the musical is currently the 9th longest running show in the history of the West End.

    The show is based on the Academy Awarding winning 1994 animated film of the same name. A 3D re-release of The Lion King film will be hitting cinemas across the country on 7 October.

    The story follows a young lion prince (Simba) who believes he is to blame for the death of his father, the king (Mufasa). Despairing, he flees leaving his evil uncle (Scar), along with a pack of hungry hyenas, to take the throne.

    Current talent includes Shaun Escoffery as King Mufasa, George Asprey as the evil uncle Scar and Andile Gumbi as Simba.

    The musical is directed by Julie Taymor and designed by Richard Hudson. The Lion King includes songs by the legendary Elton John and Tim Rice with other music by Oscar winning composer, Hans Zimmer. Songs include ‘The Circle of Life’ and ‘Hakuna Matata’

    Update: Extensions also announced for Wizard of Oz now booking to 28th Oct 2012, Mamma Mia to 20th Oct 2012 and Thriller Live! to 23rd Sep 2012.
